“Sold!” announced Sotheby’s auctioneer Mr. Hildesley as the crowd clapped when Ella The Elephant sculpture had reached its final bid. Ella among twenty-five renowned contemporary artists were auctioned at Sotheby’s N.Y.C to support Elephant Family and Space for Giants.
The auction raised over $1.3 million to help protect and preserve the habitats for Asian and African elephants.
Hosted by Owen Wilson, the event brought together the world’s top contemporary artists, including Tom Sachs, Ron Pruitt, David Yarrow, Urs Fisher, Tracey Emin and Walton Ford and well-known personalities including Princess Beatrice of York, Gia Genevieve Phillippe Hoerle-Guggenheim, Lynn Forester de Rothschild, Maxwell and Waris Ahluwalia – for an inspiring evening in support of all things elephants.
The highlight of our night was meeting our infamous #MaclarenElla_phant Competition winner and UK native Victor Ghose, who travelled all the way from London to take part in the auction and visit Ella The Elephant dressed in his art creation, painted by Philip Colbert.
The excitement doesn’t stop here … next stop Maclaren goes to India to race tuk tuks in support of Elephant Family. To check out our journey and get involved – visit worldofmacalren.com/ella
