It’s that time of the year again, LaserPerformance brings together University sailing teams from around the world for a week of racing, known as the LaserPerformance Collegiate Cup. This year’s Collegiate Cup took place at the Circolo Vela Torbole Club in Lake Garda, Italy and included teams from USA, France, Italy, Netherlands, Ireland, Austria and Australia. Young sailors had the opportunity to come together with their peers, share their experiences and meet with LPCC’s Ambassador, Karl Ziegler, an accomplished sailor and former coach at Yale University.
As part of Maclaren’s Handprint initiative, it was exciting to be part of Laser Performance’s Second Annual Collegiate Cup. This year, Laser Performance joined the race to restore the ocean’s health by partnering with ‘Sailors for the Sea’s Clean Regattas Program’ a certification system that enables sailors to protect their local waters. Whereas a footprint measures the negative impacts made on the planet, a handprint measures the positives impacts we can make simply by changing the way we do things.
The event included everything from water refiling stations, sustainable food options, and recycled dinnerware, to name a few. It was an honour for Maclaren to take part in these games that advocated young talent and supported environmental sustainability. We look forward to next year’s LaserPerformance Collegiate Cup. Congratulations to the Netherlands winning team!
